Mile Marker #29: Just 10 Little Things That Make Me Happy
Too many moving pieces to narrow them down today, so instead I thought I’d do a little thought/gratitude exercise :)
With less than two months between me and Alaska, I’ve been thinking a lot about my family and trying to say “see you later” to Maryland.
It’s a complicated feeling! I know I’m coming back eventually, but I am committing to three full years across the country. (Across two countries, really.)
I don’t want to think about Big Stuff today, so instead, here are 10 small things that make me happy.
In no particular order:
- Blasting music in the car and pulling into a parking spot right as a song ends.
- The little snuffle/croak noise my dog makes when I’ve woken her up from deep sleep.
- The smell of cleaning spray and fresh laundry after finishing house chores. (Bonus point: Sliding into clean sheets post-shower after being sweaty all day from cleaning.)
- Making an excruciatingly dumb joke in my writing servers and earning the elusive “Several people are typing…”
- The dry, stinging feeling in my eyeballs when I’m up too late because I hit a solid writing stride and didn’t want to give it up.
- When the windows are open and a perfect cross breeze slides through the house, and the trees behind my apartment let out that perfect Shhhhhh…
- The fact that the people who change the oil in my car always vacuum the floors and seats for no extra charge. (Seriously, it’s lovely.)
- Stickers.
- My handwriting, but specifically when it hits that “flow state” where I feel like I’m printing out an elementary school penmanship booklet. Or I’m a calligraphy artist on Instagram.
- Stretching in exactly the right way to make my shoulders go crunch and pop and -unintelligible dubstep sounds-.
Wishing you all ten lovely little happy things tonight :)
Til next time,
Mags
